Uneven skin pigmentation can be the result of genetics, acne or sun damage. Sometimes, makeup is enough to reduce the appearance of darker spots, but it is possible to diminish pigmentation with a series of chemical peels. A chemical peel is a safe and effective way to improve and smooth the texture of your skin.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel can sound a little daunting, but it is a safe and effective procedure routinely performed by Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery.

The Apeele, which is the deepest peel offered at Dr. Fugo’s office, uses phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in varying amounts. The formula is adjusted to meet the unique needs of each patient. For improved results, a chemical peel can be combined with other treatments at Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery such as microneedling, laser and plastic surgery.

Dr. Fugo’s team will help you decide on the right treatment plan to meet your goals and needs.

Types of Chemical Peels at Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery

Dr. Fugo Plastic Surgery offers three types of chemical peels that can enhance your appearance and boost your confidence. A chemical peel can also remove pre-cancerous skin growths and minimize the appearance of acne scars.

  1. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) offer the lightest type of skin peel. These include lactic, glycolic and mandelic peels.  Recovery time is minimal. It is a good option for patients looking to smooth and brighten skin tone, while also minimizing fine lines.
  2. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) such as salicylic acid is also a light peel similar to the AHAs but is more specifically targeted to treat acne as it has antibacterial properties.
  3. The Apeele is a combination of AHAs, TCA and phenol. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used for medium strength chemical peels. It is effective at treating pigmentation issues and other superficial skin blemishes. Recovery time is a little longer with this type of peel and you may experience some redness for a few hours or a couple of days. Phenol chemical peels are the strongest. These peels are commonly used to treat deep wrinkles and remove pre-cancerous growths. You will experience skin peeling and reveal new, radiant skin!
