Ready for brighter, smoother, glowing skin? A chemical peel is a type of skin treatment that helps accelerate the cellular turnover in the top layer of your skin. While it might sound uncomfortable, the non-invasive treatment involves applying a chemical solution to the face, exfoliating the upper layer of skin cells, and leaving behind a new layer that can look smoother and more vibrant.
The in-office portion of a chemical peel is straightforward. But the most crucial part of your procedure comes after you leave our clinic. Appropriate post-treatment care is necessary to ensure the best possible results. Our team will provide you with a tailored treatment plan and instructions, but here are some important things to know now.
What to Expect After Your Chemical Peel
Immediately after treatment, the area will be red, sensitive, and irritated. This may last for several days as the skin starts to heal itself but will typically peak within three to five days before starting to get better. This can be a little concerning for patients who have not experienced a chemical peel before but rest assured that it is entirely normal. Some minor scabbing or peeling may occur during this time, do not attempt to pull or pick at the peeling skin. The healing process usually takes about 7-10 days.
Skin Care and Makeup After Treatment
once the flaking process is complete you may resume your make-up and skin care regimen, which should include at minimum a vitaminizing, hydrating mositurizer and a broad spectrum physical sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Things to Watch Out For
Be very cautious with direct sun exposure, particularly in the early weeks as your skin is fragile and susceptible to hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
Watch for any signs of infection, such as blisters or pus. If you see signs of potential infection or experience worsening pain, please call our office immediately. We want to ensure your healing process is pain-free and as fast as possible!
