Chemical Peels

What Is A Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel done at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics is a skin rejuvenation procedure in which topical solutions, most commonly derivatives of fruit acids, are applied to skin surface with an effort to remove superficial, dead skin and stimulate the growth of healthier, deeper skin layers. The result is new, smoother, healthier, more robust skin.

Here at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, we offer a wide variety of Chemical Peel options, enabling us to effectively treat a milieu of skin problems ranging from dull skin tone or complexion, fine lines, wrinkles, abnormal pigmentation, redness or other discolorations, UV damage, acne scars and surgical scars.

Chemical peels can be offered as stand-alone procedures or as combined procedures with other aesthetic approaches – microneedling or lasers – to symbiotically enhance and supercharge your results. Depending upon the specific topicals chosen, based on each clients specific and unique aesthetic goals, chemical peels are curated to penetrate only the most superficial skin layers or deeper, with more intense options designed to penetrate the the deepest dermal skin layers.

What Are The Goals of a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel performed at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics is a skin-resurfacing procedure. Our expert team of estheticians have combined decades of experience and understand every individual client has unique skin concerns. Your esthetician will review your concerns and issues, discuss your medical history, including past treatments, ask questions to fully understand your lifestyle, activities, budget, goals and expectations. Your skin will be closely examined and only then can our esthetician outline and educate you on all of your options, most of which are proprietary to The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, so they can only be found here. Should you decide that Chemical Peels are your solution, a range of options may be offered, including:

Light Chemical Peel

A light chemical peel, also referred to a superficial chemical peel, targets the outermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis. Our estheticians typically use these in series or in a combination approach to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone and dull skin complexion. These result in minimum to no down time and can be frequently repeated to achieve ongoing improvements.

Medium Chemical Peel

A Medium Chemical Peel, also referred to as a moderate peel, targets just beyond just the epidermis and into outer or upper layer of your skin dermis. At The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, our estheticians can use moderate peels in series or in combination with other skin procedures to optimize results. Moderate peels are used to treat wrinkles, acne scars, lip lines, UV damaged skin and pigmentation irregularities. Recovery time is minimal and repeated procedures may be desired to achieve and maintain your desired skin appearance.

Deep Chemical Peel

A Deep Chemical Peel performed at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics targets the deepest layers of skin cells known as the deep dermis. Our experienced and expertly trained estheticians can use a Deep Peel as a stand-alone procedure, in series stacked at 5 to 6 week intervals or in combination with other skin procedures – Microneedling or Lasers – to optimize results. Deep Peels are used to treat deep wrinkles, acne scars, lip lines, UV damaged skin, skin and eyelid laxity as well as more stubborn pigmentation irregularities. Recovery time is generally 3 to 5 days.

What Are The Risks of a Chemical Peel?

A Chemical Peel is a procedure that should be performed only by advanced estheticians with extensive experience in these procedures and thorough understanding into the nuances of skin health and anatomy. Here at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, Founders Cassandra Tutalo, FNP and Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Fugo have built and maintain a team of only the most expert and experienced Estheticians in the field. Chemical Peel procedures performed correctly by experienced providers not only ensures that you achieve your skin appearance goals, but also minimizes, if not completely eliminates your risks of adverse outcomes.

Performed correctly by experienced providers, Chemical Peels are very safe procedures with a variety of expected, transient side effects, including:

Redness, Swelling and Peeling

Here at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, we educate our patients to understand that normal healing from a chemical peel involves redness of the treated skin. After a medium or deep chemical peel, expect some light to heavy skin peeling. This may last a few days, depending upon the specific type of procedure performed and whether a combination procedure was utilized.

Changes in Skin Color

A Chemical Peel can cause treated skin to become transiently darker than normal, particularly dark spots that were targeted. These areas of hyperpigmentation may appear darker until the peeling process is complete. These problems are more common in people with darker skin tones.

Alternatively, areas of the skin may transiently appear lighter than normal. This is known as hypopigmentation or frosting and is most common with deep chemical peels.

Infection

A chemical peel, irrespective of the depth or experience of the providing esthetician can lead to a bacterial, fungal or viral infection, such as a flare-up of the herpes virus — the virus that causes cold sores. Our expert staff at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics will ask screening questions during your initial consultation and offer you prescription medication to prevent, suppress or treat these skin problems should you be at risk.

Am I A Candidate For A Chemical?

Here at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics our experienced team of Estheticians may caution you against a chemical peel, perhaps offer an alternative procedure if you:

Have taken the oral acne medication isotretinoin (Accutane, Myorisan, Claravis, others) in the past 12 months

Are pregnant

Have frequent or severe outbreaks of cold sores

How Do I Prepare For A Chemical Peel

Here at The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics, founded by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jonathan Fugo and Board Certified Nurse Practitioner Cassandra Tutalo, FNP, every client receives the Futalo Aesthetics Advantage: Our breadth of experience, knowledge and procedural options, both non-surgical and surgical, ensures that you are offered all of your options by our experienced team. Other med spas, having no background, training or experience in Plastic Surgery, can only offer a very limited scope of non-surgical procedures. All too often, this leads to limited client education, explanation, the promise of results that set unrealistic expectations and ultimately wasted time, money and bad outcomes or worse, significant complications. The Med Spa by Futalo Aesthetics was founded to provide the better, elevated med spa option.
